20th Recent Appointees in Polymer Science Meeting

Dr Thomas Swift will be presenting a talk at the 20th RAPS meeting at the University of Leeds, an event running from the 4th to the 6th of September 2019.

His talk is entitled ‘Some Advantages of Disperse (in size and branching) Polymer Systems’ and features contributions from G. Orton and R. Hoskins.

19th Recent Appointees in Polymer Science

The Polymer Biomaterials group is highly involved in hosting the 19th RAPS meeting at the University of Bradford, an event running from the 5th – 7th September 2018

Dr Beverly Stewart is providing a talk titled ‘Polymers and Theoretical Chemistry’ whilst RAPS committee member Dr Maria Katsikogianni is chairing a session. Dr Thomas Swift is also organising evening social activities after the dinner sessions.

Event – Polymers for Advanced Technologies

Doctor Thomas Swift will be representing the Polymer Biomaterials group at this years international Polymers for Advanced Technologies, hosted at the University of Manchester.

Doctor Swift will present some of the recent work on Poly(acrylic acid) carried out by the group, focusing on our recent discovery about its molar mass dependency.

Event – Polymer Process Engineering 17

Doctor Thomas Swift, Maria Katsikogianni and Professor Rimmer are all presenting at the Polymer IRC this July.

Professor Rimmer will deliver a keynote speech on Highly branched poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) for tackling antimicrobial resistance whilst Doctors Swift and Katsikogianni will be giving short oral presentations on harnessing nano-patterning and incorporation of antimicrobials to manufacture orthopaedic trauma implants and Polymer Characterisation.

Event: Northern Postdoctoral Researchers Meeting

We are pleased to announce Dr Thomas Swift will be representing our Research at the University of Huddersfield, at the 2016 Royal Society of Chemistry Northern Postdoctoral Researchers Meeting on June 10th 2016.

His presentation, provisionally titled ‘Measuring the Inter-polymer separation of solvated materials with Fluorescent Tags’ will cover research both published and new concerning inter-label distances on polymer probes.

We look forward to seeing many other Universities represented there.

RSC BIOMATERIALS CHEMISTRY SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP

In the new year the Rimmer group will be attending the RSC Biomaterials Special Interest Group [link here] which is being held this year at King’s College, London.

Regular attendees at this event we will be presenting a range of posters showing recent research from Sheffield University and there will be a 15 minute presentation by Thomas Swift entitled ‘Bacteria Binding by a Fluorescent Polymer Probe’ which ties together research presented in our latest highly branched polymer paper with previous bacteria binding systems published over the last five years.

2013 Northern England Postgraduate Chemistry Conference
